The BIG RIG is focused on Larger and\/or aging shortboard enthusiasts who don’t want to give way to Hybrids, Mids or Fish. We know we can still ride a HPSB, but can we navigate crowded line-ups or catch waves in pressure situations? With that question in mind, we went to work on the BIG RIG. A direct derivative of the DRIVER 3.0 and DRIVER 2.0, scaled up, but not dummied down, for bigger and (of course) older surfers, who still wanna rip. Fight fight fight to that dying last light! Motivated by the growing amount of custom orders we’ve been receiving for larger scale Pro-formance Series Shortboards, like the DRIVER series, and seeing a demand to offer them to a bigger audience. Inspired by the incredible surfing of Cole Houshmand and his 6’4”\/220lb frame, we started by dissecting the boards we’ve been building him over the last 3-4 years. Cole is a young, fit athlete and world class surfer, so we figured similar boards could be great for smaller, but older, moderately skilled surfers, in the 175-190lb range, then scale up and down, from there. The sky is the limit. The BIG RIG…Driver retains most all of the design elements of Cole’s (and our other elite team riders) boards: Thicker centerline, with rolled deck and smooth sloping “not too boxy” rails. Continuous rocker, that accelerates though the tail, under the rear foot, but relaxes in the entry rocker. Single concave throughout, but deepest between the feet and mellowing in the front 2’ and rear 1’ of the board. Noticeable double concave through the fins and under the rear foot, to cut through the thoroughly modern, high performance tail rocker. A curvy, catch free outline, with a modest squash tail, for average surf. One thing we did do, is relax the entry rocker a bit, and fill in the forward 12” of the nose outline, making for an easier paddle through the line-up and wave \u003cmeta charset=\"utf-8\"\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003ecatching, with more built in glide into and while surfing waves. No one wants to see us older guys flapping around, trying to create speed!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p1\"\u003eBuilt with the same blanks and glass jobs as the smaller “Pro-formance” Series boards, to keep them light, nimble and responsive under foot. Containing all the proven design details and DNA as the RNF_96, from which is “spawned”, the RNF ’96_KINGFISH features: Low entry rocker, for paddling through line-ups, ease in catching waves and plenty of glide, to take you where you wanna go, once you’re on one. Flattish deck, with full, down\/soft rails, for floatation and stability.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe flat deck allows us to stay relatively thin with the KINGFISH, keeping the deck-line curvy. Even the larger sizes are relatively nimble, flexible and forgiving underfoot. Balanced outline, with modest width in the nose and tail, which both measure the same width, on all sizes, retaining plenty of central curve in the outline, for turning. The tail is still similar width to a shortboard and combined with the shallow swallow, it doesn’t feel “too fishy”, allowing real turns. The new Uber Driver is just that. Excessive fun, beyond expectations and above all – a great everyday surfboard. It’s designed to further blend the barriers between hybrids and Pro-Formance surfboards. The Uber Driver features the outline and rocker\/concaves from the back half (engine room\/control center) of the DRIVERS currently ridden in smaller waves on tour by Kolohe Andino and Griffin Colapinto. It is then blended to a lower, wider, faster, more forgiving and playful nose. The tail features a low centerline rocker with a curvy rail line rocker under the rear foot, that transitions from a generous single\/double concave through the front fins, to a noticeable vee behind the rear fin and out the tail. The nose rocker and forward outline was imported from our Rocket series outlines, and allows this board to be ridden shorter, with more speed out the gate and more drive and stability for everyday surfers. The outline and rocker are blended in a way that enables the board to still be surfed like a modern Pro-formance shortboard. It just feels like you’e cheating a little. The Uber-Driver is the Ripper’s Pro-formance hybrid. Uber-ripping fun for everyone. UPDATED OCTOBER 2018 Based off of Team rider and overall feedback we fine tuned, updated and evolved the UBER DRIVER over the course of 2018. The general consensus being that the UD needed a decent wave to come to life. Almost like HPSB, but the team wanted a small wave speed machine. A Toy, for going mad in less than stellar surf. Blowing off steam. The Team spoke, and we listened. The results have netted a flatter, fatter, faster, funner small wave flying machine. Mason Ho and Ian Crane both rode The updated UBER DRIVER-19 to the final of The “STAB HIGH” Wave Pool event. Michael Rodrigues and Yago Dora are both calling the New UBER DRIVER their all time favorite alternative shape. Wider nose and tail, with a slightly lower overall rocker, and \u003cmeta charset=\"utf-8\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003ewith more emphasis on small sub par surf.  This being when our team, and most who ride “Pro_Formance” style boards, would actually want to use the UBER DRIVER. The past 3-4 years’ refinement and feedback, we’ve evolved the foil, bottom curves, outline rails and rocker, for a new generation of surfers to attack typical small wave contests.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p3\"\u003eGuys like Cole Houshmand and Kade Matson both relied on swallow tail Sub Drivers to qualify for the WT.\u003cspan class=\"Apple-converted-space\"\u003e \u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/span\u003eMichael Rodrigues regularly rips them, as does East Coast stalwart Michael Dunphy and the OG Kolohe.\u003cspan class=\"Apple-converted-space\"\u003e \u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/span\u003eBased off rider feedback and the consistently large amount of custom orders for swallow tailed Sub Drivers, we realized it’s time to release the updated design…and do it as a swallow tail, first. The SubDriver3.0 (swallow) was born. A generously proportioned, performance outline, with its wide point noticeably set back, creating a hip between the feet, that swoops into a moderately wide swallow.\u003cspan class=\"Apple-converted-space\"\u003e \u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/span\u003eThe bottom features a deep single concave, through the center, maxing out between the feet, then hyper-extends (with plenty of double concave) through the tail. There, the rail line accelerates to the Sub Driver 3.0’s distinctive Vee, behind the rear fin.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"p3\"\u003eThe swallow tail reduces surface area, provides drive and lends some grip and pivot, while still retaining width, for speed. The rail rocker mirrors the outline hip, combining to provide a balanced fulcrum to initiate effortless turns, anywhere on the wave.
