- What You Thought of When You Designed It? This board is the product of years of testing and feedback from Sean Poynter. There were countless prototypes before this final rendition was approved. SP was super stoked with the way his SP24 and SP25 models performed, however he felt there was too much of a gap between the top end of the SP25 and bottom end of the SP24, he wanted one board that would cover all the conditions that he would normally surf, enter the SPX. This board incorporates a mixture of the best elements from each of the previous models, as if the SP24 and SP25 had a love child that got all the good genes.
SHAPE DETAILS SUMMARY | DESIGN INFO
Outline:
Generous outline curve into a bump squash. The generous outline curve offers great maneuverability both forehand and backhand enabling the board to be surfed radically. The bump squash or rounded square offers great squirt and drive off the bottom. The package together makes for a very high performance board.
Rails:
Pinched in the middle, low in the tail. The pinched rail allows more volume to be packed into a more compact package and allows the deck line to be relatively flat in the standing area, adding comfort. Throughout, the rail line is low enough to offer great hold and penetration of the face so you can feel super confident in any conditions.
Rocker:
Accentuated nose flip, with a clean performance rocker. The accentuated nose flip gives the board great chances to recover when coming back down off the lip whilst the clean performance rocker enables the board to be surfed radically in the power source of the wave. This overall rocker package makes for an extremely maneuverable board.
Bottom:
Flat upfront blending into a single concave through the middle, to a double concave into the back foot and subtle V on the exit. The concave upfront helps initiate a turn earlier, keeps the board responsive, as your rail will engage the second your mind decides to. We have purposely kept the concave out of the nose, this is to reduce over sensitivity and keep the front rail higher out of the water. At speed, if your front rail engages when you don’t want it to, it can throw you off or into a spin. The double concave then creates a spine where the stringer would be but also allows the transition into the subtle V to be smoother. This subtle V kicks in when you are right on the back foot, when somewhere critical it offers that bit more hold and control helping to bed the tail in.
Deck:
Relatively flat in the standing area through to roll in the tail. Being flat in the standing area adds a level of comfort and stability to the board, whilst keeping the roll towards the tail means the rails can stay nice and low giving you great penetration.
